The next generation of Seldén downwind furling
Launched as Seldén’s second generation of downwind furlers, the CXr introduces a patented integrated ratchet, a larger drum and a new range of sail connection options. The result is easier, more controlled furling—particularly when handling larger Code sails and asymmetric spinnakers.
The big CXr advantage: an integrated ratchet
The most important difference between the CXr and the earlier CX and GX systems is the patented ratchet mechanism.
On a conventional CX or GX, the furling line has to be controlled throughout the furling process. With the CXr, the ratchet automatically holds the drum against the load from the sail.
That means you can pause while furling without the sail immediately trying to rotate the drum back. This is particularly useful with large top-down sails, where furling can otherwise require considerable physical effort.
The ratchet also helps prevent the sail from accidentally unfurling while it is being hoisted or when it is already furled.
To unfurl the sail, the ratchet is deliberately released with a short pull on the furling line in the direction the drum needs to rotate. Once released, the drum spins freely as the sheet is pulled.

CXr: one furler for Code 0 and asymmetric sails
The original CX was designed primarily as a Code 0 furler, while the GX was developed specifically for top-down furling of asymmetric spinnakers and gennakers.
The CXr introduces more flexibility.
A standard CXr can be used with a Code-type sail, while adding the appropriate Tack Swivel Adaptor converts the system for top-down furling of an asymmetric spinnaker or gennaker. The adaptor provides a freely rotating tack connection while the anti-torsion cable transfers rotation up the luff so the sail furls from the head downward.
The CXr also adds several features:

- Compatibility with a dedicated Tack Swivel Adaptor for top-down furling
The CXr’s drum and line system have also been designed around smoother handling, with sealed steel bearings and a line guide intended to minimize friction.
