SELDÉN CX furlers are specifically designed for CODE 0 sails
A code 0 has a rather flat design, with a straight luff set under tension; actually, the luff load on a Code 0 can be more than twice the luff load on an asymmetric spinnaker! The straighter the luff is, the higher you will point. Furling simplifies the handling of this sail which can get quite large.
How do you furl a code zero sail?
On a code 0, the entire luff length is furled simultaneously.
- An AT-cable is integrated in the luff (or a carbon cable-less system) and fitted with thimbles at the head and tack that connect the luff to the drum and to the halyard swivel. (special cable clamps required).
- The drum and the furling line can be permanently mounted to the bow and along the stanchions.
- You can tack on the bow, but because of the luff tension, a sturdy bowsprit is a good idea…
- The halyard swivel has sealed stainless steel bearings to handle the increased loads applied when sailing up wind.
- A dedicated halyard for Spinnaker / Code 0 is required and 2:1 purchase is recommended to obtain the required luff tension and to reduce the load on the halyard sheave and the line stoppers. Seldén’s standard fitting for the “dead-end” of a 2:1 purchase Code Zero halyard is easy to mount and looks stylish. Preferably, the dead-end of the halyard is a Dyneema core eye-splice.
- All structural parts of the drum are made of high-strength duplex stainless steel (less material and lower weight).
