The benefit of a custom spinnaker is to offer maximized dimensions and shape for your boat and your sailing habits (cruising or racing programs). Beyond the size of the spinnaker, you can also optimize a spinnaker by choosing a very specific cloth.
To design a great custom spinnaker for your boat, we will need at minimum the I and J of your boat, but ideally, we will also want to measure:
- how far at the spinnaker sheet lead blocks from the tack of the sail (for an asymmetric) ; or from the bow (for a symmetric)
- how far from the boat media axis are the sheet lead blocks
For a custom spinnaker to be used for class racing (or under a rule like PHRF), we will need more numerous, and accurate measurements to make sure we fit in the class rules and/or do not increase your rating. Most of the time we need SLU, SLE, SF and SHW measured according to IASF rules (or class rules if different). This information can also be found on your rating certificate; in the class rules, or by measuring your old sails- in any case please call us so that we can discuss the best way to obtain the measurements needs in your particular situation.
Pretty much anything can be customized. Some of the many features you can customize are:
- Request a specific cloth and colors
- Specify a shape
- Specify a custom size
- Specify upgrades, such as
- Luff and Leech upgraded to Vectran
- Two ply to the luff (asymmetrical spinnaker) to add strength and durability, and extend sailing range.
- Sail numbers can be fitted
- McLube Sailkote Plus treatment, providing tight furling, mildew resistance.
- Hand sewn leather corner reinforcement (light grey leather)
We will need to quote you a specific price and turnaround time.
